On 28th November, the EU Ambassador to The Gambia joined the Women in Business Forum & Awards, hosted by the Gambian Women's Chamber of Commerce.
This year's theme: "For all women and girls: rights, equality and empowerment", strongly reflects the EU's commitment to advancing these values in all our policies and actions. In the midst of the 16 days campaign against violence against women, the event served as a reminder of the need to educate women and men alike about civic rights: A man who uses violence against a woman is not more of a man — he commits a crime.
In her remarks, the EU Ambassador highlighted that empowerment is a deliberate choice by:
Investing in women-owned businesses
Creating spaces where women's voices shape
policy and innovation
Challenging harmful norms, even within our own
communities
Ensuring safety and justice for survivors of violence
The event was a great occasion to celebrate inspiring Gambian women who lead, innovate, and create change. Let us continue working together to ensure that in both The Gambia and the European Union, equality is not just an aspiration, but a reality.
